LSU Distinguished Faculty Award

$2,000 salary increase

The LSU Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes faculty members with sustained records of excellence in teaching, research, service, and/or any combination of the three. Any full-time faculty member who has not received this award previously is eligible. 


LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award

Quantity Available: 4
$2,000 cash award

The LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award recognizes faculty members for outstanding teaching, research, and/or service. Any full-time faculty members who have not previously received the award and are from any of the following colleges/schools, with at least one-half of their teaching assignments being at the undergraduate level, are eligible. The eligible colleges/schools are Agriculture, Art & Design, Engineering, Ogden Honors College, Human Sciences & Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Manship School of Mass Communication, Music & Dramatic Arts, E.J. Ourso College of Business, Coast & Environment, Science, and University College.


LSU Foundation Distinguished Graduate Faculty Teaching Award

$3,000 cash award

The LSU Foundation Distinguished Graduate Faculty Teaching Award recognizes a faculty member with superior graduate-level teaching and related activities. Any full-time faculty member who teaches graduate courses, demonstrates distinguished teaching over a period of several years, and has not received this award previously is eligible.


David J. Kriskovich Distinguished Professorship

Quantity Available: 1
$3,000 per year for three years*

The David J. Kriskovich Distinguished Professorship recognizes a faculty member who has made contributions to promote democracy, rule of law, and human rights in developing countries. The professorship will be awarded for a three-year time period. Any full-time faculty member is eligible.

*Maximum sustainable annual spending allocation. The amount represents level of funding at the time of the award and, in each year following, is subject to change by action of the provider/group providing the funds.


LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award

$5,000 cash award

The LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award recognizes faculty at the rank of assistant professor who have outstanding records of scholarship and published research. Any full-time faculty member at the rank of assistant professor is eligible for this award.


Ogden Honors College Outstanding Teaching Award

$2,000 cash award

The Ogden Honors College Outstanding Teaching Award recognizes faculty with a distinguished record of teaching and mentoring students in the Ogden Honors College. Any full-time faculty member who has taught at least one Honors course in the past two academic years is eligible.


Brij Mohan Distinguished Professor Award

$1,000 cash award 

The Brij Mohan Distinguished Professor Award recognizes a full-time faculty member who serves as a model for the community in demonstration of a commitment to peace, equality, and social justice. The award shall be for one year, but a recipient may receive this award again if selected by committee and approved by the Office of Academic Affairs. The one-time cash award is to be used by the recipient for projects related to social justice.


H.M. “Hub” Cotton Award for Faculty Excellence

$1,000 cash award

The H.M. “Hub” Cotton Award for Faculty Excellence recognizes a faculty member with a distinguished record of teaching, research, administration, public service, or any other outstanding contributions to the university. Any full-time faculty member who has not received this award previously is eligible.


George H. Deer Distinguished Teaching Award

$2,000 cash award

The George H. Deer Distinguished Teaching Award (1 award) recognizes a faculty member who teaches courses for which University College students are enrolled, both the Center for Freshman Year (UCFY) and the Center for Advising and Counseling (UCAC). As a general rule, nominations should be restricted to persons having taught University College students in three of the past four regular semesters including the semester in which the award is made.


Carruth McGehee Award for Excellent Research by a Junior Faculty Member

$2,000 cash award

Associate professors in the following departments are eligible for this award: the Department of English, the Department of French Studies, the Department of Geography & Anthropology, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies, the Department of Psychology, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Cultures. The eligible departments rotate for each award cycle. The nomination should be based on a specific work, which may be a paper, a small and coherent collection of results, or a book.


Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award

$1,000 cash award

The Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award recognizes outstanding service-learning contributions by faculty. All full-time LSU faculty members are eligible to apply. Nominees must demonstrate exceptional and sustained commitment to integrating quality service-learning activities in at least one academic course. Service-learning activities must exemplify best practices, have significant community partner input and involvement, and be approved through the Center for Community Engagement, Learning & Leadership.


C-I Teaching & Service Excellence Award

$1,500 cash award

The C-I Teaching & Service Excellence Award recognizes an individual who, through teaching, research, faculty teaching development, or CxC program efforts, engages and champions C-I pedagogy across campus in an exemplary manner. Any LSU faculty member—tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track, full or part-time—actively engaged in the CxC program and C-I teaching and learning, and who has not previously received this award, is eligible.


Lillian Bridwell-Bowles Innovative C-I Teacher Award

$500 cash award

The Lillian Bridwell-Bowles Innovative C-I Teacher Award recognizes, inspires, and continues to support innovation in C-I course/assignment design, teaching, assessment/feedback practices, classroom management, and teaching productivity/efficiency/effectiveness. Any LSU faculty member—tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track, full or part-time—who has taught a certified C-I course within the past three semesters and has not previously received this award is eligible. This award is named in honor of Lillian Bridwell-Bowles, an internationally recognized scholar of communication-intensive pedagogy and the founder of LSU’s Communication across the Curriculum program.


LSU Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award

$2,000 cash award

The Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award is intended to recognize outstanding teaching ability and service to students. The award acknowledges and emphasizes the important role teaching assistants play in providing quality academic instruction. All graduate teaching assistants who hae an academic or fiscal year appointment are eligible for this award. An individual nominated for the LSU Alumni Assocition Teaching Assistant Award should possess the following attributes:

  • A record for excellence in teaching that is indicative of a genuine interest in students.
  • Outstanding relationships with other teaching assistants, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the promotion of better instructional programs.
