WHAT TO BRING

First-year Students Move in August 16-18, 2024

Incoming first-year students move in August 16-18, 2024. The experience is the same for all three days; however, selecting an early arrival appointment on Friday, August 16, 2024, will add a $200 early arrival charge to your student fee bill.

Choose your arrival appointment (arrival date and time) in the housing portal July 1-12, 2024, based on the schedule below. Once you gain access at your building's time, you will continue to have access through July 12, 2024, to reschedule your appointment.

If you change buildings, you will select or be assigned a new arrival appointment.

Each building has a set number of appointments based on how many cars can unload at one time. Everyone in the same building gains access at the same time. A later appointment selection time does not reduce the options for you! This schedule simply alleviates everyone logging in to the housing portal at one time and overloading it.

Appointment Selection Schedule (CST):

Acadian Hall - July 1 at 10 a.m. Herget Hall July - 1 at 2 p.m. Spruce Hall - July 2 at 12:30 p.m.
Azalea Hall - July 1 at 10:30 a.m. Horseshoe (Annie Boyd, Evangeline, Highland & Louise Garig Halls) - July 1 at 2:30 p.m. West Campus Apartments (Freshmen only) - July 2 at 1 p.m.

Arrival Appointment Dates & Times

  • Incoming first-year students move in August 16-18, 2024. The experience is the same for all three days; however, selecting an early arrival appointment on Friday, August 16, 2024, will add a $200 early arrival charge to your student fee bill.
  • Friday, August 16, arrival times are 2, 3:30, 5, and 6:30 p.m. (Incurs $200 early arrival charge.)
  • Saturday, August 17, arrival times are 8, 9:30, 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2, 3:30, 5, and 6:30 p.m.

Bed Lofting & Bed Rails

  • Rooms with loftable style beds can request a high loft or low loft position during appointment scheduling. Not choosing a loft option keeps the bed at its default mid-height position.
  • A limited number of bed rails are available. Request one at your community’s service desk after moving in.

Incoming first-year students move in August 16-18, 2024, with limited early arrival appointments on Friday, August 16, 2024.

  • You must have the LSU Office of Orientation's approval to arrive later than August 18, 2024, since you will miss parts of Welcome Week. We will work with you to schedule a later arrival time once we have Orientation's approval of your late arrival.

Arrival Appointment

  • Choose your arrival date and time. Access instructions are above.
  • Starting July 13, all requests to change your move-in appointment must be sent to housing@lsu.edu

Bed Loft and Rail Requests

  • Loft preference can be submitted when you select your move-in arrival appointment.
  • A bed rail may be requested at your building's service desk after you move in. Only one rail per student, while supplies last.

Tiger Card

  • Bring your Tiger Card to Move-in! Submit your Tiger Card photo before your orientation session.
  • If you do not have your Tiger Card, you will use a temporary key at move-in check-in. You can go to the Tiger Card Office to pick up your Tiger Card during Welcome Week.

Packing Prep

  • Read the Living on Campus Handbook for all policies and procedures and what items to leave at home. Use our helpful packing checklist too.
  • Try to pack items in boxes, storage tubs, or durable, easy to carry bags to make the move-in process easy for you. Label each item with your First initial, last name, room number, and tally of boxes. For example, Mike the Tiger in Herget 212 with 5 boxes would label his items with "M. Tiger, Herget 212, Box 1/5, Box 2/5," etc.
  • Rolling carts are available for use, however you are encouraged to bring a hand truck, dolly, or wagon. You and your guests are responsible for moving items into your room.

Print Your Arrival Time Hang Tag

  • Check your LSU inbox the first week of August for your printable Move-in Day hang tag. This hang tag is the only way you are allowed on campus and into the Move-in Day staging area on River Road at your move-in appointment.
  • Print one hang tag per car. Each student can have a maximum of two vehicles. A vehicle towing a U-haul or trailer counts as two vehicles. Sharing, photocopying, or printing extra copies of hang tags is not permitted.
  • If you don't have access to a printer, just let us know and we'll mail it to you or tell you how to get one on campus the day you move in.
  • If you plan on taking a ride-share or taxi to the staging area, let us know and we'll make sure you have the info you need to be as efficient as possible.

  • Position your hang tag on the rear view mirror with the date, time, and barcode facing the front windshield. Each student can bring up to two (2) cars. A vehicle towing a U-haul or trailer counts as two vehicles.
  • If you have a third car,  you must park it in a perimeter lot on campus before coming to the staging area. A third car will not be allowed into the Move-in staging area.
  • Arrive at the Move-in Day staging area, Levee Lot 412 on River Road, no more than 15 minutes before your move-in time.
    • Early birds will be redirected to the exit lane to wait for their time.
    • Late arrivals will be accommodated as possible.
  • Pull up to the welcome tents, where you will exchange your hang tag for a building-specific hang tag.
  • Oversize vehicles, cars with trailers attached, and box trucks should use the far right-hand lane in the staging area.
  • From there, just follow the directional signage and friendly faces to get in the correct lane for your building, and then from the staging area, go to your residence hall or apartment unloading zone.
  • At your community's unloading zone, guests can begin unloading cars while the student enters the building to check-in.
  • Rolling carts are available for use, however you are encouraged to bring a hand truck, dolly, or wagon. You and your guests are responsible for moving items into your room.
  • After cars are unloaded, they must be moved to parking areas throughout campus that do not interfere with move-in routes. Guests can then return to their student's community and rejoin the group.
  • Bring all trash and flattened cardboard boxes to the trash and recycle dumpsters outside the building.

If you go shopping or go to dinner with your family, that is fine. If you leave campus, be prepared for traffic congestion when you return when other students are moving in during the day.

You'll also be asked to move your vehicle away from the residence halls or apartments to make room for the next Tigers moving in.

Welcome Week begins after you move in. LSU Orientation will send you detailed schedules for all the Welcome Week activities.
