Coordinator, Student Employment and Training

Mike the tiger

Since being a counselor at a YMCA summer camp during undergrad and watching young kids make meaning of their play time, I have wanted to work in recreation. Recreation is more than having fun! It’s community building, learning, taking care of oneself, and more, and I am proud to work for a place that sees the value in providing such a space for students.
As far as my specific role goes, I love working with college students because this is one of the most transformative times of their lives. A lot of growth and self-discovery takes place during these few years, and being able to serve as a resource and safe space for them as they move through college/ young adulthood is really rewarding.

Alma Mater

My real favorite line is “fond memories that waken in our hearts a tender glow” because it’s so sweet and true. However, I love when we sing “our worth in live will be thy worth, we pray to keep it true” in Tiger Stadium because everyone stomps after, and it gives me chills every time!

Around Baton Rouge

I love any event in Baton Rouge where there will be local artists and vendors! I frequent the Local Pop-Up markets and events at Electric Depot.

Advice I don't leave home without

My high school best friend told me, “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago; the second best time is today.” This advice is sweet because I think it encourages you to let go of what you ‘should have’ done and just move forward in the present.
