Swim School

Summer 2026

Registration Opens Soon!

March 1 for LSU Students, Faculty, Staff, and current UREC Members
April 1 for Community and Non-Members

UREC Swim School offers group swim lessons designed for children ages 6 months to 12 years who thrive in small group learning environments. Our program offers six skill based levels: Parent and Child, Preschool, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. Please review the level descriptions below carefully, as each class is designed around specific skill expectations to help swimmers feel confident, successful, and safe.

Each session includes eight 30 minute lessons held Monday through Thursday at the outdoor pool. In the event of inclement weather, lessons will be moved to the indoor pool. Fun Fridays are reserved for extra family time. During your child’s session dates, up to four immediate family members may enjoy access to the shallow end of the lap pool and the leisure river each Friday. Registration closes the Monday prior to the start of classes.

To allow fair access for all families and support accurate placement, swimmers should only be registered for one skill based level per session. Parent and Child and Preschool classes are age based rather than skill based.

Please note that registering a swimmer for multiple skill based levels within the same session is not permitted, as it may prevent other families from accessing available spots and does not improve placement accuracy.

While parents and guardians may indicate a preferred level, final placement is determined by our instructors based on the child’s age, previous swim experience, and performance during the first day assessment to ensure the best fit for safety and learning. Swimmers will also have an opportunity each Thursday to demonstrate their skills and be evaluated for promotion to the next level.
