LSU research decodes DNA and RNA to reveal how life works—advancing medicine, strengthening agriculture, protecting ecosystems, and uncovering the evolutionary traits that shape our world.

President Wade Rousse praised campus leaders during the LSU Board of Supervisors meeting for hosting an outstanding LSU Day at the Capitol on Wednesday. All eight, soon to be nine, campuses comprising the LSU System were represented in Memorial Hall at the State Capitol, with leadership available to share stories of success with legislators, policy makers and influencers.

The LSU community, lead donors and friends gathered on campus today to cut the ribbon on the new Our Lady of the Lake Health Interdisciplinary Science Building, an epicenter for academics, research and industry collaboration that provides a scholarly home to 1,150 students, faculty and researchers. During the milestone celebration, university leaders announced that LSU's 2026 Alumnus of the Year, College of Science graduate Frank W. "Billy" Harrison III and wife Ann have established the first endowed deanship at LSU in honor of Billy's father, fellow College of Science alumnus Frank W. Harrison Jr.

Across the LSU system, top scientists are advancing brain health research that helps people protect memory, detect disease earlier, and live better with neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

LSU research improves seafood safety, advances aquaculture, and helps producers adapt to environmental change—strengthening Louisiana’s seafood economy and protecting our coastal resources.

Louisiana’s first Bachelor of Science degree in artificial intelligence will be offered to Louisiana State University students this fall at the Baton Rouge campus.
