The Industrial Engineering / Master of Business Administration (IE/MBA) program is designed to meet this need, providing a unique fast track to leadership roles at the intersection of engineering and business.

The IE/MBA program allows high-achieving students pursuing a Bachelor of Science of Industrial Engineering (BSIE) degree in the LSU College of Engineering to also get an early start on pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in the E. J. Ourso College of Business, through coursework which counts towards both degree programs.

This Track At-A-Glance

Get a Head Start:
The IE/MBA program is a unique programming path which allows undergraduate students pursuing the LSU College of Engineering's Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) to get a head start on earning their Flores MBA during their senior year through an Accelerated Masters program.
Apply MBA Courses Towards Your Engineering Program:
Students can earn up to nine credit hours of MBA 7000-level coursework, which apply towards the technical elective requirement in the BSIE undergraduate curriculum.
Start Your Career Sooner:
Students admitted to the Accelerated Masters program are awarded their BSIE during their fourth year, followed by their MBA during their fifth year of study. Pursuing these degrees independently would take six or more years to complete.

Curriculum & Program Structure

Students in the IE/MBA program initially follow the BSIE degree plan on an accelerated timeline, typically completing core requirements by the end of their junior year. This can be accomplished through advanced placement and enrolling in summer courses.

During their senior year, BSIE students may enter the Accelerated Masters program and begin taking up to nine (9) credit hours of introductory MBA courses, which additionally count as electives towards the requirements of the BSIE. Students then apply to the Flores MBA program for full entry. After graduating with their BSIE, students complete their MBA over the course of a fifth year.

Please note that, unlike BSIE coursework, Flores MBA courses follow the Accelerated Sessions academic calendar, which divides each semester into two modules.

What does it take to be a Flores MBA Tiger?

IE/MBA Program Requirements

You must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a foreign institution.
You must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale on all previous coursework.
Candidates must submit a GRE/GMAT score for a GPA less than 3.0. Scholarship and graduate assistantship considerations are tied to GRE/GMAT performance.
Work experience is not required; however, two years or more is preferred.
Two letters of recommendation, preferably from past/current employers or professors, must be uploaded with your application.
Provide a personal statement detailing how an MBA will position you for future career development and personal growth. Include any unique attributes and/or life experiences that may distinguish you from other candidates and how your participation in the program will help enhance the learning environment.
A professional resume must be uploaded with your application.
You may be selected to participate in an in-person or Zoom interview. Selected candidates will be contacted with further details about this part of the admissions process.
Full-time residency is required.
Meeting the minimum admissions criteria does not guarantee admission to the program.

Steps to Apply

IE/MBA applicants should apply at the end of their junior year in the BSIE program.

Complete the Accelerated Masters Form, which can be found here.
Obtain all required signatures on the form through the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering.
Submit the form to the Flores MBA Program office for approval.
Complete the LSU Graduate School online application.
Pay the $50 application fee to the graduate school ($70 for international students).
JD/MBA candidates must also apply to the Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
For the current application deadlines, consult the boxes below. Applications received after deadlines will be considered on a rolling basis.
Our admission committee must receive completed applications and all required documentation for admission consideration. An additional $25 late fee will be assessed for applications received after the final deadlines.

Financial Aid

Merit-based scholarships and Graduate Assistantship (GA) funding is available for eligible MBA candidates on a competitive basis. GA awards provide a monthly stipend and waive the LSU nonresident fee for out-of-state students. All MBA applicants are evaluated for scholarship and GA funding during the admission evaluation process.

How can I find out my application status?

Do I need a degree in business administration or in a similar major to be admitted to the Flores MBA Program?

Only the One-Year program requires an undergraduate degree in business. For all other MBA program formats, your undergraduate degree can be in any field. 49% of our students hold non-business undergraduate degrees, including education, engineering, journalism, geography, political science, criminal justice, kinesiology, and history.

When should I apply?

Our final application deadline is May 15, but we start receiving applicants in September of the previous year. We have four decision points. Due to limited financial awards and seating (full-time and one-year-only), applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as soon as they have decided to apply.

Do I have to have all my application criteria before starting my application?

You may apply at any time, but you cannot be admitted until test scores (if required) have been submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions and the program office has received the appropriate scores. Likewise, you may submit your references after applying. Sending all your documents as early as possible will increase your chance of bettering other competitive candidates and being admitted.

How do I prepare to take the GMAT or GRE?

You can apply for the GMAT test at the official GMAT website or the official GRE website. These resources provide free test-prep software and helpful test-taking strategies. You can also purchase review guides from the websites.

What is the GMAT/GRE/TOEFL code for LSU?

The GMAT program code for the LSU Graduate School is 6373.

Is it possible to get admitted without work experience?

Prior work experience is not required for those applying to the Full-Time and One-Year programs. Executive MBA Flex and Online MBA program students must have at least three years of work experience.

Are scholarships offered to students?

Students accepted to the full-time and one-year programs are automatically considered for the scholarships awarded through the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Scholarships are awarded based on need and/or prior academic performance.

Do you accept credits from other institutions or another LSU major?

No, we do not accept credits from other institutions. This means it is not possible to start your degree at one institution and transfer to LSU. Students must need to start the program with the incoming class. Credits from other graduate programs at LSU are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please call the office at 225-578-8867 if you are in this position and need to discuss your options.

Can I take MBA classes early?

Students cannot take MBA core courses before their official matriculation period.

How much of a time commitment is the full-time program?

Think of the full-time MBA experience as a full-time job. Besides classes, you will spend a substantial amount of time outside class working on team projects, attending events, and becoming an active member of the Flores MBA Program.

What are the differences in curriculum between the Flores EMBA Flex Program and the Flores Online MBA Program?

In addition to online classes, the Flores Executive MBA Flex includes robust on-campus residencies and an international experience, which are all included in the tuition.
