Instrument and operator time at the SIF is available on a cost basis to both the academic research community and to industry. For scheduling instrument time or training sessions, please contact the appropriate Instrument Specialist, the SIF Manager, or use the booking system.

- Facility prime time is 8am to 6pm on weekdays. All other time and holidays are non-prime time. Only qualified users have access to SIF during non-prime time. Please contact SIF director for eligibility requirements and application for non-prime time access to SIF instruments.
- Instrument reservations are made through the online scheduling system (lsu.fbs.io) and will be billed according to actual usage time at the rates listed above for all usage equal to or more than reserved time. For all “no show” reservations or reservations with partial usage, 80% of the reserved time or actual utilized time, whichever is higher, will be billed; Cancellation of any reservation must occur at least 4 hours prior to the scheduled time to avoid being charged. The minimum charge for instrumentation usage is 0.5hr, charges based on rates listed above.
- There is a minimum charge of 0.5hr for any professional assistance that is required or requested. For all collaboration-based services, there is no professional assistance charge for all internal users and $15/hr professional assistance charge for all external users. Collaboration needs to be recognized through co-authorship in publications.
- Continuous usage (10hrs and above) rates for selected instruments (for internal users only) are: $400/day for EP, XPS and XRD; $350/day for Raman, SP8, SpinSR10 and Light Sheet 7; $80/day for Titan Workstation I; $450/day for Ga FIB/SEM, $650/day for Xe PFIB/SEM and MicroCT. Prime time and non-prime time rates will apply for continuous usage of less than 10 hours per reservation per user. Facility Assistance or consumables will be charged separately.
- All non-academic requests must be made through the SIF Director and at minimum a "Scope of Work" is required prior to starting any project.
- Educational usage for accredited courses will be subsidized by SIF with 75% split payment for the instrument usage. Facility Assistance for class/lab is charged separately. Samples used for educational courses are required to be "non-research" related and must be provided to the SIF at least two days prior to the instrument reservation. Course usage must be scheduled within 3 weeks from the beginning of each semester.
- For all analysis in which single sample analysis is within 0.5hr, charge rate per sample will be applied, otherwise, hourly rate will be applied.
- Assisted rate for external users will be the listed unassisted rate plus the corresponding professional assistance rate. The assisted rate for internal users will be unassisted prime time rate plus the corresponding professional assistance rate whether the usage is in prime time or non-prime time.
- Professional assistance charge rate per sample only applies to the specified service types.
